This workshop is aimed to provide parents, grandparents, caregivers, extended family, and advocates information regarding how families can pursue their rights against Child Protective Service agencies
Attorney Shawn Mcmillan and Nicole Williams will discuss relevant information pertaining to dependency and civil proceedings, including case law, articles, and strategies to empower families to defend and preserve their rights while in dependency, understand the law and how the work product and complaints can be easily be adapted to meet a family's particular circumstances.
Please note Shawn or Nicole will not be there to take on any new cases or to give specific legal advice. Its purely educational.
Please arrive promptly as seating may be limited. Workshop will start promptly at 9:30am.

FYI, here are just a few excerpts from this page:
- "NEVER write any self-incriminating statements into your declaration as this can be used against you. You’re trying to prove your innocence, and not give evidence to prove your guilt."
- "Keep it as brief as possible. The judge is far more likely to read
it happily and thoroughly if your sentences are short and to the point,
and if no unnecessary information is included. Brevity is golden when
writing court documents. You want the judge to like you, not hate you
because your statement was too long. Focus in on the most important
issues and leave out everything else."
